Screw Sampler (SCR)

The Screw Sampler (SCR) is an industrial sampling solution engineered for continuous or intermittent extraction of dry, free-flowing, non-sticky powdered materials. It is typically installed in chutes or silos where gravity-fed material flow allows reliable sampling.
Widely adopted across cement plants, as well as in chemical processing and power generation facilities, the SCR ensures consistent and representative sampling of bulk materials.
Screw Sampler Variants:
- SCR-B (Bottle Variant): This version of the Screw Sampler delivers the collected sample to a discharge chute, allowing the material to fall directly into a sampling bottle via gravity. It is ideal for standalone sample collection.
- SCR-C (Chute Variant): In this configuration, the sampler directs extracted material to the outlet, where it drops—also via gravity—through a chute into downstream sample preparation equipment. This version is well-suited for integrated lab analysis workflows.
The SCR Screw Sampler offers a durable, low-maintenance solution for dry powder sampling in bulk material handling environments, ensuring high reliability and sample integrity.
- Compact design for easy installation in tight spaces.
- Automated or manual operation for average or spot sampling.
- Improves safety by replacing hazardous manual grab sampling with automation.
- Versatile installation in both vertical and inclined chutes.
- Compatible with chute types, including rectangular and circular designs.
- Adjustable positioning to ensure optimal placement and highly representative sampling.
- Integrated control system enables continuous, consistent sample collection.
The Screw Sampler (SCR) is driven by a geared motor connected to a transport screw housed within a fixed tube. This tube features an inlet opening that allows free-falling dry material to enter for sampling. Designed for versatility, the SCR can be mounted in both rectangular and circular chutes with a maximum inclination of 30°, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.
The SCR operates in a two-step cycle to ensure accurate, clean, and uncontaminated sampling. In the first step, the screw rotates forward to extract the sample material and transport it to the discharge outlet chute. In the second step, the screw reverses direction to empty and clean the pipe. This automated cleaning process prevents material build-up and cross-contamination, ensuring the system is fully reset and ready for the next sample cycle.
With its reliable operation and self-cleaning functionality, the SCR Screw Sampler delivers consistent, representative samples in continuous process environments.
| Material type | Dry, non-sticky powdered material |
| Drive unit | Gear motor |
| Unit material | The SCR is made from mild steel and painted according to M&W standard colour RAL 5010. The topcoat is polyester powder with a brightness level of 30, unless otherwise specified. |
| Unit Control | The SCR is controlled via the plant’s PLC system and motor control centre. It can be delivered with a local control unit and/or controlled by an M&W central control cabinet, depending on the chosen concept and customer preference. |
| M&W central control cabinet | The M&W central control cabinet consists of a motor control centre, circuit breakers, PLC system, and a man-machine interface (HMI). |
